Light sleeper or deep sleeper? The wireless ENUTRAIN Wake-up Trainer permits a treatment tailored to the child's sleep behaviour.
Before wetting their bed, light sleepers slide from deep sleep into a light sleep, but do not awaken fully. These children respond to waking devices and sometimes wake by themselves after wetting the bed. For a light-sleeping bedwetter, the alarm may be in the same room as the child. Run through all the steps of the routine for preventing bedwetting several times in advance with the child, who is then to do it alone at night. In the first few nights, check that your child carries through these steps. If establishing the sleep and wake-up behaviour is difficult or if your child is not yet able to perform the steps independently, move on to the treatment for deep sleepers. Deep sleepers remain in the deep-sleep state throughout the bedwetting and do not perceive sounds or alarms. These bedwetters do not respond to being spoken to and must be shaken awake. In general, the children can sleep soundly in their wet bedclothes right through till morning. Wake-up training for a deep sleeper who wets the bed requires the support of a second person. In the first 4-6 weeks, the alarm is placed at the bedside of a supportive family member. The child is awakened as soon as possible after wetting and accompanied to the toilet. Set the alarm to that time at the child’s bedside on a trial basis for two to three days. If that works, the clock should stay there from then on. |
